While there are certainly many books of that type, I have also found some truly great e-books available for free on the Kindle platform.

I have assembled a personal library with over 3000 titles as of this date.
I guess that even great writers and quality publishers find it useful to make certain quality books available for free from time to time so that the author and title can be exposed to a much wider audience, some of whom might write glowing reviews that will attract a wider paying audience. Whatever the reason, sharp readers can benefit!
